At Osteon we offer a range of treatments, Osteopathy, Sports Massage and Acupuncture.

Osteon is a friendly and professional clinic setup to provide cost effective treatments in the heart of London. The whole teams are dedicated to high quality, effective treatment and service at all times. We are able to cater for a wide range of conditions not just "back pain".

What is Osteopathy

Osteopathy is all about treating the whole person. Osteon Osteopaths will at all times be searching for the cause of the problem you are coming in with so, don't be surprised if they end up treating an area of the body that you may feel is not even hurting. A great saying that one of the Osteon team lives by is "if you do what you always did, you get what you always got". We all really agree with this. You really need to be sorting out the cause of the problem not just treat the symptoms (this may be knee pain).

More information about Osteopathy can be found here.

What happens on the first appointment?

On the first appointment (which lasts up to 45 minutes) a detailed case history will be taken. This is vitally important in connecting the dots that make "you" the person that you are. This also helps to direct the treatment in one of two ways.

The first is a safety element. All Osteon Osteopaths need to make sure that the symptoms in front of them are not of a medical element which would need immediate referral for this Osteon Osteopaths are highly trained in a variety of medically based examination techniques which are used where appropriate.

Secondly all Osteon Osteopaths need ascertain musculoskeletal issue. Once the initial case history has been taken Osteon Osteopaths can get to the really interesting part and you get to see their ears smoking as they take you through a very thorough examination plan.

Each one of Osteon's Osteopaths will do this in a slightly different way. This always adds to the uniqueness of their skills and knowledge. During this examination period you may be asked to dress down to your underwear. The reason for this is where Osteopathy gets its whole body explanation. Osteon Osteopaths will focus on the problem area first but then examine how the rest of the body has an interaction with the area to test whether there is a predisposing factor. Fundamentally we want to solve the issue not patch you up knowing you will be back in a few weeks time. The final stage of the first appointment is the actual treatment.

The best bit. Osteon Osteopaths are trained to high level through their foundation training at university but also in further courses and in house training. The techniques used in treatment differ from patient to patient but fundamentally range from soft tissue massage, joint articulation and manipulation.

What happens after?

After the treatment you may feel a bit stiff and sore for approximately 24-48 hours and this is a normal treatment reaction in most cases. If you are at all concerned by this then you should call in immediately. Your Osteon Osteopath may ask you to use ICE or Heat or a combination of both. This is called contra bathing and actually is a very old technique on increasing or decreasing blood flow as appropriate or actually creating a pumping mechanism in the muscle. Your Osteon Osteopath may even prescribe you exercises/stretches which they will show you in the state of the art gym facilities or they will forward you on information. This is all dependent on the nature of your problem.

Can I use my insurance?

Some of the insurance companies require a doctor's referral. The best thing to do is to give us a call and we can tell you what you need to do.
